I HAVE A DREAM
On December 1, 1955, in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, a woman boarded a bus and took the first seat behind a sign reading “Reserved for Whites”. The police were called over and Rosa Parks was arrested.
That night, a meeting of black leaders was held and Martin Luther King spoke of his feelings on how the protest and the battle for rights should be waged. He began by calling for nonviolent resistance. It was not “a  method for cowards… it does not seek to defeat or humiliate the  opponent, but to win his friendship and understanding. It will  work as a means of protest.” He also said, “I wish people realized that we are going to resist on the side of justice.”
A short while before Martin Luther King was shot to death by an assassin, he said, “I havedream that one day little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.”
